Born in Madison, Wisconsin on February 1st, 1956

Departed on September 22nd, 2020 and resided in Denver, Colorado

Heidi M. Bush, 64, ended her courageous six-year struggle with cancer Tuesday, Sept. 22, in hospice at home in Denver, CO, with her husband of 47 years, Joseph A. Bush, at her side. Heidi was born on Feb. 1, 1956, in Miami, the youngest of four children of the late Harry V. Senn, professor at the University of Miami, and the late Audrey J. Senn. A Miami native Heidi grew up and lived there for 58 years, Heidi graduated from Killian High School and had a 35-year career at the University of Miami as an administrator.

Heidi and her husband also grew fruit trees in South Miami-Dade County and lived in the cozy, sunny home they built themselves. That family also included parakeets, fish, a cat and 30 dogs over many years. . Heidi was a true nature lover, growing a sumptuous, Florida-friendly garden, attracting butterflies and birds, filling her home (and friends’ homes) with plants and flowers year-round.

She also created beauty indoors. Some of her paintings still hang in her home. Whimsical sketches were sometimes tucked into cards or gifts to family and friends. Delicate angels were whipped up from little more than wooden pegs, pipe cleaners, yarn and lace, reminiscent of those she made with her mother as Christmas decorations.  Heidi loved living plain and simple.

The Bushes moved to Denver more recently to be nearer medical care as Heidi’s condition worsened. Through multiple chemotherapy cycles, radiation, and surgeries, Heidi was private about her suffering, showing positivity and good humor to friends in emails. She kept going, with Joe, the “love of her life,” nearby.

In addition to her husband and brother David and his wife, Pam, of Miami, survivors include a sister, Elizabeth C. “Beth” Senn of Archer, Fla. Another sister, Linda Senn Rupp, preceded her in death, as did her parents. In lieu of a service, the family requests donations be made as a memorial gift to the ASCPA.

Heidi’s friendship — our sisterhood — has meant more than I can say and will never leave my heart. Her integrity, strength, and respect and care for every living thing remain guiding lights. As Joe says, she leaves a hole in the universe… “pack up the moon and dismantle the sun…” I will love you always, Heidi.

I am so sorry to hear of Heidi’s passing. She was so courageous and fought the “good fight”. She was an inspiration to me. When I spoke to her she was always concerned about my well-being, so uplifting with her stories and anecdotes. Heidi never complained and would only say that she was going to get another treatment and she would speak to me in a few days. I will forever hold her memory in my thoughts and most important, my heart.

Dearest Heidi – The world is a much sadder place now that you are no longer in it. You leave behind many broken hearts amongst us humans as well as the world of animals that you loved and cared for over the years. You fought so bravely against a terrible disease and you are now a shining star in the Heavens that we can all look up to. Rest peacefully. You are loved and missed.

I will miss Heidi so very much. She was my “Flower Sista”. When I look at the several plants from her garden that now live in my backyard, it warms my heart knowing that a little piece of her still lives on. I loved her love of dogs. Such a giving and kind soul. I am so glad she is pain-free now. She will always be our angel. Rest in peace my dear friend. Sending love and light to you, Joe. Big hug! xoxo

Heidi will certainly be missed.  She was such a great person, so down to earth, positive and absolutely full of life.  I am so glad to have remained in touch with her after graduating from the University of Miami and sharing updates on both of our lives.  Rest well, my friend.  Joe, you are in my thoughts and prayers during this time, continued blessings to you and your families.

It has been such a loving experience having you as my Sister. Your strength together with such a positive attitude as you fought that Cancer Demon was an inspiration to me. Your love for life that you shared with your incredible Husband, the many animals you rescued and gave such a good life too as well as your beautiful Garden that was planted to attract and feed the many flying birds and Butterflies you watched – was phenomenal. As you know from our countless phone conversations I have a tendency to be too wordy and this is no exception when memorializing my precious sister but I will struggle to cut this short by telling you about the painful hole you have made in my heart by leaving us. To Joe and Beth, I will try and be there for you as we attempt to navigate through this difficult time in our lives. Heidi, you will be sorely missed every day – rest in peace.

I feel so lucky to have met you. It was a joy to work with you at UM. To this day, whenever I see a Dalmatian I think of you and smile. You will be missed. To Joe and Heidi’s family, sending healthy prayers and comforting hugs. Hoping that you will find comfort in your memories of her and in the knowledge that others are missing her, too.

Heidi had a great love for her husband, animals, flora, family and friends. She was my mentor at UM, and I will always remember her bouquet of Peacock feathers. And I believe she is now enjoying the most beautiful garden imaginable with the Angels.

My little sister, Heidi, will be so greatly missed. My thoughts & prayers go out to Joe & his family, & for my brother David & our family, for Peace & comfort as we mourn her leaving us. I remember her love of flowers, dogs, her crafts, her collections (Chickens & watering cans), & for her keeping her ‘patch’ on this earth, wherever it was, so beautifully filled w/ flowers. She was always smiling, always reassuring me that TTSP (this too shall pass) whenever I was in stress about my life. She was so caring & her love for Joe was unmatched. So thankful her pain is gone, & she is free & truly at rest. A bright light has left us, but memories abound.
